Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile (Codelco), the largest Copper producer in the world, awarded Danieli Centro Cranes the order of 3 new Teeming cranes for the smelting and refining plant at its El Teniente division in Chile.
This order has a special significance for Danieli because marks a further expansion from traditional Iron and Steel sector to non ferrous applications: after the orders for cranes serving Aluminum plants , now it is the time for Copper plants.
The order contemplates 3 new 100/30/30 ton EOT teeming cranes serving the converters where the copper is smelted, as well as a special 200 ton crane lifter device, with the purpose to relocate the cranes.
CMMA 70 ( Cranes Manufacturers Association of America) Class F standard shall be adopted for Cranes service dimensioning.
NEMA/IEC standards shall be adopted for the Electric &Automation equipment, with due consideration to the 1600 meters altitude over sea level at with the plant is located on the slopes of Chilean Andes.
The design of these cranes shall respond to the highly aggressive and corrosive environment of copper smelting units, with high presence of hot sulfuric gasses.
Specific design features have also to be adopted for cabin operator protection in case of accidental violent reactions of liquid metal and materialized by specific cabin design with enhanced screens and thermal protections, as well solutions to allow the operator to leave the cabin in a protected tunnel, via the electric room, in case of emergency.
Cranes are also equipped also with advanced automation solutions and complete CCTV system to allow to completely operate the cranes in remote mode from centralized control room, located at 400 meters distance.
